I believe that Turkish students choose to study at the International University of Sarajevo because the Bosnian mentality is very similar to ours. We share some customs and a great part of history, we have similar traditions and it is very easy to travel from Turkiye to Bosnia and vice versa. Also, the first day I came here, I realized I have a lot of things in common with other students and it was really easy for me to make new friends. What is also really significant is that the IUS diploma is recognized both in Turkiye and other parts of the world, so later on, when I finish my studies, I can easily apply for a job wherever I like. Furthermore, I had to learn English since all courses are taught in this language, so I can apply for a job in English-speaking countries as well. One of my favorite things here is that the professors are very friendly and we can sometimes have coffee with them and talk about other topics besides the things we learned in class. The only thing I do not like is the weather. It is too cold during winter and winter lasts up to four months a year, so I miss hot and sunny days.

When I finished high school, I wanted to enroll in college in a foreign country. I’d been thinking about Italy and France, however, all of those environments are very similar to the environment in which I grew up. I spent five weeks in Sarajevo as a tourist, and during my stay, I visited the International University of Sarajevo. What I liked the most about the Campus was that I met people from different cultural backgrounds and it was quite different from the European universities. I decided to enroll in Visual Arts and Visual Communications Design. Already in the first month of studying, I made a lot of friends and joined the Music Club. What was also very important to me when enrolling was that B&H is not that far from Germany and my family members can visit me often, and yet I am far enough to become independent. Also, since I have the status of a student and do not have an established employment relationship, IUS is much cheaper compared to other universities in Europe and in that way I was able to save a lot of money and redirect it to costs of living in Sarajevo.
